Commit to be fit

Commitment and motivation are the two words that will need to become part of your vocabulary on your quest for fitness and health. If your goal is to become toned and lean then you need to look deep within yourself to find the necessary time, energy and resolve to commit to becoming your own motivator. Without this resolve you will never be able to reach the fitness goals that you set for yourself.

I decided that after the birth of my children I needed to do something about the way that I perceived myself and to make a commitment to improving the way that I looked. I had trained pre-pregnancy but due to the responsibility of having small children, could not find the time or energy to make the commitment to train. I decided that I needed to stop making excuses and take charge of my fitness goals.

Three years later there has been an extreme change in my body and personality. Not only do I feel better about myself, I also feel more confident and can honestly say that I look the best that I ever have physically.

From this experience, I would like to say that one has to have a holistic approach to exercise to achieve your goals:

  1. Commitment – it is extremely important to make a commitment to make the time to exercise on a regular basis. I can assure you that making the effort to do exercise will have its rewards.

  1. Diet is another factor which should be taken into consideration. This is where a structured eating plan is of crucial importance to help your achieve your weight loss goals. If one is to build muscle and stamina it is important to structure your diet accordingly to ensure that you have a balanced diet incorporating good fats such as avocados, nuts etc as well as carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes and vegetables together with lean protein source. Without eating correctly you will never be able to obtain the body that you want.

  1. Warming up before training with quick dynamic stretches and rowing or running is a good way to prevent any injuries.

  1. Well structured exercise plan incorporating body weight based exercises has proved to be the best method for losing body weight and the quickest way of improving overall strength; Incorporating Olympic weight lifting with gymnastics movements such as pull ups and plyometric exercises will get you onto the road of fitness quicker than any other form of exercise. All these excercises combined with running, swimming or any other form of cardiovascular excercise will allow you to become fitter and stronger. I can assure you that the results I have seen can be attributed to a combination of traditional and CrossFit type work outs.

  1. Your exercise programme should be varied and change constantly to challenge your strength and fitness.

  1. Training with a friend with the same aims and commitment in a group setting such as CrossFit is good for motivation to get yourself to the gym as the training is in a competitive environment where you will want to push yourself to do the best that you can.

Lastly exercise releases good endorphins so not only are you working your body but you will end of feeling better, less stressed and happier after a workout. Go ahead make the commitment to change your life and be a stronger and fitter you!
